Description

6" (15 cm.) Porcelain head of young boy with lightly tinted creamy finish, grey tinted hair, red and gold symbol mark on front plinth, and blue logo symbol of manufacturer inside base. The model was the inspiration for the first series Kathe Kruse doll, and also for Kammer and Reinhardt's 115 art reform doll. It was sculpted in the 17th century by Flemish artist Francois Duquesnois, and had been revived at the beginning of the 20th century, along with other classical sculptures from that period, in the workshops of August Gerber of Cologne; the portrayal of a wistful young child was a popular choice for doll makers. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1920.
