Solid domed bisque socket head with flattened solid dome, blue glass inset eyes with spiral threading, lightly painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde human hair, all-wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrist. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 5 (head) E.G. (circle stamp on back torso). Comments: Ernst Grossman, who in 1880 was the first German dollmaker to register the idea of ball-jointed bodies. Value Points: beautiful little child with French-like look is historically important, and was made to appeal to the French market, wearing original muslin chemise, socks and shoes, has sateen dress and bonnet, and has original paper label of French toy boutique from where she was originally sold.
