15" (38 cm.) A bisque shoulder head with blue glass eyes, painted facial features, open mouth, teeth, blonde mohair wig, ball-shaped carton torso containing hidden music box, is attached to a carved bone handle and lavishly costumed in orange and ivory silks in jester fashion, with metallic fringe edging and cap. When twirled about, the party novelty known as "marotte" plays a merry tune and its costume panels swing. Included is a framed antique postcard depicting a party-goer in costumed twirling a marotte. Excellent condition. For the French market, circa 1900.
