Description
13" (33 cm.) Carved wooden socket head with solid bald dome excepting defined block of comb-marked carved hair at center front crown, cut eye sockets with painted eyes, defined ears, closed mouth with hint of smile, all-wooden body with torso that separates at the sides for access to unusual torso assembly, jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Chinese, the wood, carving and characterization is in the manner of Door of Hope Mission dolls, circa 1910, although the maker of this doll is uncertain. Value Points: wonderful detail of carving, unusual hair, expressive features, rare body assembly, and wonderful embroidered silk costume and cap.
