9" (23 cm.) All-wooden doll with one-piece head and shapely torso, heart-shaped face and elongated throat, carved tuck comb at crown, painted black hair with stippling details of curls, painted tiny facial features, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted flat red shoes. Condition: generally excellent, original finish with few typical rubs. Comments: Grodnertal, circa 1850. Value Points: the petite Grodnertal lady has been preserved for 170 years in a paper-covered wooden trunk with scenic historic engraving on the lid, wearing original costume including very fine crewel embroidery pocket bag, and with six fine original gowns in dainty muslin or transfer fabrics.
