French Bisque Bebe L'Intrepide by Jumeau with Trunk and Trousseau

Description

19" (48 cm.) Poured bisque socket head, deep blue glass paperweight inset eyes, lushly painted lashes, thick brush stroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, shaded and accented lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate, Jumeau composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent, chip on pierced ear hole. Marks: Tete Jumeau 8 (stamp, and artist check marks) L'intrepide 8 (incised). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1890, the unusual markings appeared on a walking doll by Roullet et Decamps with head by Jumeau, although this doll indicates that Jumeau used the marking for bebe heads also on rare occasions. Value Points: lovely gleaming bisque and well painted features, the bebe wears an original cotton print dress, undergarments, velvet bonnet, signed Jumeau shoes, and owns a trunk with lift-out tray, interior decoupage, containing a variety of additional costumes and costume pieces,  notable tan wool coat with velvet collar and cuffs, and a creamy wool crepe best dress with lace yoke.
