Solid domed paper mache shoulder head with painted black pate and delicate curls around the edges of forehead, small black enamel inset eyes, painted lashes, brows and nostrils accents, open mouth, two upper and two lower teeth, original brunette human hair wig in small ringlet curls, kid gusset-jointed poupee body. Condition: generally excellent, kid body very fresh and sturdy except finger wear. Comments: French, circa 1850. Value Points: the doll is preserved in its early Normandy bride's box with superb original painted decorations, and owns an extensive trousseau, comprising: five original dresses of fine patterned cottons (three with matching pantalets), two early sunbonnets with elaborate construction, apron, blue cambric tunic, two hand-stitched night shifts, two chemisettes, four cotton caps, simple corset, ruffled collar, three hankies, underskirt coin pockets, market basket, parasol with wooden and carved bone handle, and hand-cast brass bed warmer with wooden handle.
