A wooden box, when opened and arranged, forms the framework of an elaborate 19th century Parisian theatre, having richly draped die-cut curtains, folding side panels that depict box seats with finely-dressed families awaiting the performance, pediment with decorated architecture and panels including scenes of cherubs with blue birds, muse writing, and theatre masks, along with changeable proprs: 15 back scenes including interior scenes and historic French sites such as Jardin du Luxembourg, and the old harbor of Marseille, 8 stage frames, 12 pairs of side panels, 12 additional scenery cut-outs, and various cut-out performers and accessories. Very good condition, pieces appear mostly original but may be hand-made additions. Many of the pieces are signed Pinot & Saguire, Epinal. French, circa 1880.
