Extremely Rare German Paper Mache Milliner's Model with Black Complexion and Painted Jewelry

13" (33 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head with black painted complexion, sculpted hair in tight ringlet curls, painted facial features with unusual characterized face, brown leather slender body in so-called "milliner's model" style, wooden lower limbs, flat red painted shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1850. Value Points: very rare black complexioned model with uniquely sculpted hair and face, original body, rare detail of painted necklace and earrings, costume included. The doll is from the estate collection of the late Madeline Merrill, author of The Art of Dolls, 1700-1940 and is photographed in that book, page 26.
