Description

20" (51 cm.) Arranged upon an ebony-painted platform under a glass dome is an elaborate gilt arrangement with silk tufted cushion decorated with floral gilt pins, two beveled oval mirrors surrounded by gilded leaves and flowers, and highlighted by small bisque petaled flowers. Arranged upon the cushion is a bridal coronet of tiny wax orange blossoms designed to appear as though actual pearls, and a pair of matching earrings for the bride. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1885, the tradition of the bridal "globe de mariage" symbolized a young couple's hopes for their future, and served as a repository of memorabilia of their marriage.
