20" (51 cm.) An elaborate gilded figural arrangement is posed upon an ebony base and enclosed within an oval glass dome; centered in the arrangement is a toilette table, sized appropriately for poupee or small bebe, with maroon velvet cushion as the table top, and a velvet framed mirror with shaped beveled edge. The centerpiece is decorated with gold-plated symbols including daisies, ivy leaves, three doves with wreaths of harmony that symbolize aspects of happiness and prosperity in a marriage, and further enhanced with additional silk camellias and daisies. Resting upon the cushion is a very elaborate bridal coronet of wax orange blossoms. French, circa 1885, the "globe de mariage" symbolized a young engaged couple's hopes for the future and served to preserve the bridal coronet. Excellent condition.
