11" (28 cm.) A wooden framed theatre with unusual shaped interior and slanted roof is lavishly decorated with paper, painted and mirrored details to suggest a fine salon or ball room, with orchestra balcony at the rear and painted wooden curtains framing the opening. Inside the room there are arranged three richly costumed wooden couples in superbly painted costume (including Polichinelle), and at each side are four single people including a jester, mandolin player, and two local town folk. When manivelle handle is turned, delightful music is heard, the three couples revolve individually while their circular dance floor also revolves, the jester jumps up and down, and the three other floor people turn back and forth; each figure has hinged legs allowing infinite variety of movement. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1865. Value Points: superb miniature toy with extraordinary decorations and details in remarkable state of preservation.
