31" (79 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head with sculpted black hair arranged in vertical finger curls around the neck, inset black glass enamel eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, muslin stitch-jointed body, brown leather arms. Condition: professionally restored painting is well achieved.  Comments: circa 1865, in the Greiner manner. Value Points: rare glass-eyed paper mache with original body, early silk plaid dress with blue velvet ribbons, undergarments, leather shoes, being sold from the estate collection of the late Madeline Merrill, author of The Art of Dolls, 1700-1940.
