Description

13" (33 cm.) l. An unusual paper mache sabot (clog shoe), designed as though carved from tree bark, is presented as though a bisque-head lady with brilliant cobalt blue eyes, blonde mohair wig and closed mouth is resting in the bower of a shoe-shaped tree branch; in actuality, it is a bisque head alone which is encircled by silk flowers and soft faux-moss and leaves although it appears as though the entire doll is resting in the shoe. The shoe opening is covered with a padded silk lid decorated with the doll's lace-dressed bisque arm, and the lid opens for access to the hollow interior wherein delicious candies were once stored. Remnants of the original store label are on the inside lid. Excellent condition of the very rare early deluxe model of doll decorated candy box. French, circa 1865.
