18" (46 cm.) Pale bisque swivel head with plump facial modeling on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, delicately painted nostrils and lips of closed mouth, brunette mohair wig, all-wooden body with dowel articulation at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, unusual elongation of torso and upper legs, cupped hands with sculpted definition of fingers and knuckles, wearing fine antique mauve velvet suit with silk and lace trim, leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. original body finish, choice bisque, hip joints are stiff causing awkward movement of legs. Marks: F. 4 G. Comments: early model from the Gaultier porcelain works, circa 1865, likely made on commission for a luxury Parisian shop. Value Points: rare model with finest quality of bisque and painting, rare body style.
