Of heavy cast iron the toy features a cast figure of woman with long dress trimmed with painted ruffle, red-shoe'd feet peeking beneath the hem of the gown, short curly hair and painted facial features, jointed shoulders. When the wooden handled lever at the back is turned, the woman nods her head back and forth, and moves her arms as though sewing. The toy is painted its original black with gilt and aqua finish. The number "162" in impressed on the top plate of the sewing machine. Very good condition, finish original except possible touch-up on face, paint worn on her right arm and right cheek. Circa 1875.
