Description

17" (43 cm.) Each with firm leather shoulder head with well defined molded detailing and painting of facial features and hair portraying adult man and woman, on original softly-stuffed leather body having stitch-jointing at shoulders and pin-jointing at hips and knees, firm leather hands and feet. Condition: generally excellent, perfectly preserved and original. Comments: Circa 1840, maker unknown, the early pair likely represent Queen Victoria and Prince Albert during their early years. Each doll wears its original beautifully tailored silk and woolen costume, and the artistry of their sculpted hair, each with unique facial model, is superb. Few other dolls of this type are known to exist.
