Description
5.5" (14 cm.) An all wooden doll depicts a brown-robed monk with carved costume details, painted gesso over wood face and hair. Although the body appears as one piece, the upper and lower bodies can be separated, and when done, the lower body unhinges to form a three part arched stage depicting scenes of the Mass. The scenes are minutely painted with details of clock, windows, altar, pews, and tiny priest. Condition: generally excellent, some wear to facial paint, interior painting and vignette are perfectly preserved. Comments: Germany, circa 1850.
