Description
18" (46 cm.) A toy drum, posed upon a wooden platform, is decorated with lithographed and embossed papers on the sides and drum head, and has a wooden handle that attaches to a metal rod that attaches to the paper mache Polichinelle that stands atop the drum. Polichinelle is dressed in traditional style and, in his turn, he holds a smaller tin drum with coin bank slit at the top. When the handle is turned, he briskly kicks arms and legs as though marching while thump, thump sounds emanate from the larger drum. Good condition, unrestored with surface dust and some paper wear. A rare early "mechanical bank" with attention-getting movement and sound. Circa 1860.
