11" (28 cm.) Carved wooden swivel head portraying an adult woman with exquisitely carved features, enamel inset eyes, painted-over-gesso complexion and facial features, original wig, slender shaped torso with defined waist, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees, painted red stockings on shapely legs, painted shoes. Condition: generally excellent, some surface dust on costume. Comments: probably mid-18th century, the doll is from the original collection of Estrid Faurholt, shown in her Book of Dolls and Dollhouses, before being acquired by the Legoland Museum. She wears an original blue silk gown lined with red baize, and having a fitted bodice and skirt inserts of metallic threads. The mischievous expression of her upturned lip corners belies the solemnity of her downcast eyes.
