Description
12" (30 cm.) 12"l of base. An elegant maple stand with inlay design supports a tin viewing form with apparatus for holding photographic flip reels, and a wooden turning handle. When the handle is turned the tiny photographs quickly flip creating an illusion of movement, an erstwhile early form of cinema. Included with the Kinora viewer are ten original reels; eight are in original labeled reel boxes and some have hand-lettered names of the reel: Pardow Picture (woman making herself up),Burglar, Man and wife, Railway line, and High Jump. English, circa 1895, the rare optical toy is considered an important predecessor to the cinema. Excellent condition of viewer and reels, boxes worn.
