7" (18 cm.) 7"l. A beautiful wooden viewer of fine burled walnut with brass and copper trim allows for a series of photographs to be seen as in daylight or nightlight. Each slide is a double sepia photograph with handmade cut-outs or pinpricks on the reverse tissue side. When the slide is inserted into the viewer, and the top lid lifted or closed, the scene appears alternately as day or night. Included are 18 original views, mostly of Paris scenes including Opera, Place du Carousel, Place de la Bataille, and Louvre. Viewer excellent, scenes very good to excellent. French, circa 1880.
