12" (30 cm.) Paper mache rounded head with tiny facial features, unusual tinting of complexion, straw-filled muslin body, paper mache limbs, original silk jacket, trousers, sash, sandals. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Japan, late 19th century, the painting is exquisite including little tiny bows at each sprig of hair, and sculpting details include toe indentations for proper wearing of sandals. The doll is posed upon its original stand, and holds a paper mache parade puppet in his hand.
