Description

14" (36 cm.) Pink-tinted poured wax shoulder head with well defined facial features, throat hollow and cleavage, brilliant blue glass inset eyes, painted facial details, light brunette inserted hair, soft muslin body with poured wax limbs, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, hair a bit sparse, costume delicate. Comments: English, in the Montanari style, circa 1860, the doll closely resembles Queen Victoria at the mid-19th century and is wearing her original exquisitely detailed gown, undergarments, and tiara of intertwined silk ribbons and metallic threads. The doll was from the early collection of Estrid Faurholt and featured in her 1967 Book of Dolls and Dollhouses described as "Victoria in Wax...an imposing personage". The Faurholt Collection later became the nucleus of the Legoland Museum.
