11" (28 cm.) A wooden box with green paper cover contains a keywind mechanism that activates the paper mache and wooden dancing figure that is posed on the lid via a thin metal rod. The doll, with rich ebony black complexion and painted facial features has loosely wired wooden limbs, and when the toy is wound, the doll appears to dance about. Condition: very good, mechanism functions well, some craquelure to face, costume dusty. Marks: Perry & Co London...(paper label on base). Comments: England, Perry & Co, circa 1880, the dancing doll was a popular toy of the 1875-1890 era, with at least 5 different firms, mostly American creating different variations. The English version is quite rare, and includes the original paper label inside the box detailing instructions for use.
