Description
8.5" (22 cm.) A character-faced tin figure is seated upon a tinplate "tree strump", with brown complexion, cut-outs for eyes and mouth, wearing wide-brimmed sun hat, and fancifully-painted costume with ruffled collar and striped leggings, and holding a banjo in his jointed arms. When wound with coil-spring movement hidden under the stump, three movements occur: eyes flirt back and forth, tongue moves in and out, and the banjo is played, a simple banjo plucking sound is heard. Movements function well, hat brim dented, paint is original albeit worn and a bit faded. Attributed to Gunthermann, circa 1890, the wonderful toy has amusing and well-synchronized multiple movements.
