13" (33 cm.) Sculpted head of faux-ivory has ornately arranged hair and painted facial features with heavy eye lids, on original loosely-limbed muslin body with carved wooden lower arms and legs, the legs having carved decorative details, original wire loops in hands suggests use as marionette. Condition: fingers and feet fronts missing, otherwise excellent. Comments: Chinese, circa 1900, the rare theatrical doll wears superb original silk costume with appliques and embroidery, on muslin backing, with fur fringe.
