10" (25 cm.) A German black haired china head is attached to a uniquely designed body with carton torso that forms into a cone-shaped skirt enclosing the walking mechanism, circular wooden base at hem of skirt with brass feet below. When wound the doll appears to walk about. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Patented July 15, 1862. (stamp on base). Comments: patented by Enoch Rice Morrison, the toy was created by Martin & Runyon, circa 1865, and is wearing its original wonderfully preserved red woolen gown with lace trim. The label has the additional cautionary note "this doll is only intended to walk on a smooth surface". Included is a box fragment from the English version of the toy, with illustrations and directions.
