Description

15" (38 cm.) Amber tinted wax shoulder head of adult lady with head posed to the side, angular slender features and throat, jointed wax slender arms with wax hands posed for holding objects, linen wrapped armature body with wire frame for posing. The lady wears a very elaborate wig, and a stitched-on gown of brown silk taffeta with superb appliqued decorations, matching bonnet, fan, bouquet, tulle handkerchief and silk slippers. Condition: very good, wax excellent except right arm broken below elbow (held by costume), some costume frailty albeit all original. Comments: probably French, late 18th century, a very rare find in remarkable state of preservation for its age and style.
