9" (23 cm.) 9"h. 19" opened d. A wooden one room school room with paper lithographed exterior and red roof, folds open at front and half of roof to form a large school room. A paper mache professor stands in front of the room whipping a pleading student on bended knees, while another student stands nearby weeping. 24 other students sit obediently at the little seats, each with a large notebook and each notebook emblazoned with a different letter of the alphabet (except y and z, presumably belonging to the two troublemakers!). Each student has vividly painted costume including modeled long hair on the boys and a colorful head scarf on the girls. A slate and lesson plans hang on the wall. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1875, a rare and beautifully detailed early room.
