Description

15" (38 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head with deeply sloping shoulders, slightly modeled bosom, and oval shaped face, black sculpted hair with unusual combmark details looped loosely over her ears and pulled into a braided chignon at the back of her head with defined decorative comb edging, painted facial features with unusually large blue eyes, muslin stitch-jointed body, wooden lower arms, early gown and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent, right wooden thumb missing, some typical paint rubs in hair. Comments: Germany, circa 1850. The doll was an important aspect of the original Estrid Faurholt Collection, later acquired by the Legoland Museum, who described the doll in her Book of Dolls and Dollhouses as "her eyeballs protrude slightly, making her gaze a candid one."
