Description
23" (58 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulder head with elongated strong throat and ample modeled bosom, black painted hair looping low over the sculpted ears and forming a smooth cap at the back of the head, inset large brown glass enamel eyes with unusual heavy eye lids, painted lines below the eyes lending characterization, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, muslin body with tiny waist and hefty lower torso and legs, wearing fine antique calico gown, undergarments, shoes. Condition: generally excellent, few typical paint rubs and flakes at top and back of head. Comments: circa 1840,a fine early doll with commanding presence and beauty.
