Rare Danish Porcelain Doll by Royal Copenhagen with Brown Hair and Wardrobe

Description

12" (30 cm.) Pink tinted thick paste pressed porcelain shoulder head with sculpted brown hair in short boyish fashion, sculpted ears, painted blue eyes and facial features, blushed cheeks and chin, kid leather body, porcelain arms to above the elbows, and porcelain legs to above the knees, bare feet. Condition: generally excellent, paint rub at back of hair. Comments: Royal Copenhagen, circa 1845. The rare boy model, known in the Museum Collection as "Alex" is featured with an extensive and original wardrobe, curiously girl's costumes that comprise blue print cotton gown with cotton checkered and lace pinafore, brown woolen pinafore dress with matching jacket, green plaid woolen hooded cape with silk lining, red and white cotton striped dress with piping, red and white muslin dress, brown silk jacket, black silk cape, and an extensive number of undergarments, night caps, pinafores and night shifts. The doll was featured in Cieslik's Puppemnmagazin in 1993 in an article written by museum curator Kirsten Stadelhofer.
