Description

15" (38 cm.) Shoulder head of amber tinted very thick wax over fine layer of paper mache, brown sculpted hair with curls tucked behind the ears, and ringlet curls at the back of the head, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, painted facial features, original commercial muslin body with original wooden lower limbs, painted black flat shoes with red ankle ties and buttons. Condition: generally excellent, some paint wear on wooden limbs. Comments: maker unknown, the style of hair, cobalt eyes, and thick wax along with superb original (albeit frail) gown with pearl appliques and original undergarments suggests an early German model of the 1860 era. These examples are extremely rare to find. The doll was from the original collection of Estrid Faurholt, later acquired by Legoland Museum.
