Description

5.5" (14 cm.) All latex composition, the miniature doll portrays an infant newborn with fretful baby expression, swivel head, jointed limbs, blonde hair, eyes modeled as though closed with defined lashes and brows, closed mouth with downcast lips, wearing original diaper, and resting in its original 7" Norwich style wooden cradle. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: DC (on back of head). Comments: Dewees Cochran, the American artist, circa 1950's; according to records she made about a dozen of these dolls for a church bazaar in Norwich, Vermont, and never made others; the cradle was made according to her scale drawing by a neighbor, Ernest Brigham who owned an apple orchard. Value Points: very rare model by the beloved artist, with its original cradle, and original paperwork.
