Description

17" (43 cm.) (17" x 13" box,1 1/2" cup). A wooden box is decorated with marbleized green paper and lettered "Mon Gouter" in gilt; it hinges open to reveal a well-fitted interior comprising a nickel- plated tea service and faience cups and saucers. The tea service includes a wooden handled tea pot with bracket support for warming candle, along with six nickel-plated mugs with glass liners and a beaded edge tray. Also included are eight napkins, six spoons, little cakes. The cups and saucers are signed Luneville France, the tea service is signed Excelsior-Nickel, and there is a label from the original boutique "Maison Bail"; the prestige Parisian department store created Etrennes holiday catalogs for a number of years at the end of the 19th century. Excellent condition, the pieces are still tied inside the box, one cup handle is missing. French, circa 1890.
