20" (51 cm.) (20"w. x 13"d) A wooden desk-shaped box with slanted lid and inkwell boxes hinges open to reveal the surprise interior, a French school room. The interior lid has architecturally shaped windows and roof-line with the word "Ecole" above the door. Inside the room are five student desks and benches, teacher's desk, blackboard on easel, and a series of maps, charts, lessons, globe and other teaching accessories. Seated at the desks are ten bisque- head students with glass eyes, mohair wigs, five piece paper mache bodies, costumes. Each student has a lesson plan and a school journal. The previous child owner has imagined the school as a model of their own, for each book has a child's name hand-penciled on it, and a school song with the student's names, dated 1917, is included.
