French Bisque Bebe Steiner from Early Period

Description

14" (36 cm). Pale pressed bisque socket head with rounded facial shape, very small cut pate at back of head, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, accented pale lips that are very slightly parted to reveal two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, lambswool wig, French composition and wooden jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, body is appropriately sized and of the period, but may not be original. Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1877. Value Points: charming petite bebe with shy expression, unusual details of modeling, fine antique costume includes white homespun dress, undergarments, straw bonnet, red stockings, white kidskin shoes signed "D" in script. The doll holds a maple wood antique sewing box with inlay lid, wire and bone handle, red satin lining.
