Description
24" (61 cm.) Bisque socket head with amber-brown complexion, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted dark lashes, thick black brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly-parted lips, six porcelain teeth, pierced ears, black hand-tied human hair wig over cork pate, French brown composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Emile Jumeau, late 1890s, likely created as an exhibition doll for the 1900 Paris International Exposition. It was for this exposition that Jumeau created a series of illustrative postcards with drawings of his dolls including the rare character series as well as exotic dolls with an eye toward attracting international clientele. Value Points: rare doll with flawless complexion, original body, body finish, wig, and superb original silk and velvet costume, signed Jumeau shoes.
