Description

18" (46 cm). Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, rounded facial modeling with pale bisque, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, delicately painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, auburn mohair wig, French kid-over-wooden torso and legs, dowel-jointed hips and knees, kid gusset-jointed arms. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: L. Depose 3 D. (head) Magasin des Enfants (boutique label on torso). Comments: Louis Doleac, circa 1875, the doll was sold by the prestigious doll and toy shop located on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. Value Points: rare signed model of poupee, wearing antique red and blue woolen military costume with gold helmet, sword. This doll is shown in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls, Volume II in the entry for Doleac.
