black
complexion and distinctive portrait-like features,
amber brown
glass paperweight inset eyes, black painted brows
and lashes,
rounded upturned nose with accented nostrils, full
cheeks,
closed mouth with full coral-shaded lips, pierced
ears, black
fleecy mohair wig over cork pate, French black
composition and
wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists,
wearing antique
maroon and ivory silk dress that appears to be
original,
undergarments, black stockings and shoes, black
straw bonnet.
Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 B.M.
Comments:
Mothereau, circa 1886. Value Points: rare portrait
of African
princess. Few models are known to exist. Superb
quality of
bisque and patina.
