Bisque swivel head on bisque shoulder plate, large brown glass enamel inset eyes, richly painted brows, lashes and eyeliner, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French kid body with gusset- jointing at elbows, hips and knees. The doll is costumed in the traditional wedding gown of Il de Re France, comprising a grey silk taffeta gown with ivory satin ribbons, very fine fichu of Alencon lace with embroidered edging, very dramatic coiffe with long lace-edged streamers, undergarments, shoes marked "Jumeau", pearl earrings, orange blossom corsage with gold beads, and carrying lace-edged orange blossom wrist corsage. The doll is marked "7" and artist's checkmarks on her head, and has original boutique label "Au Paradis des Enfants,156 Rue de Rivoli Paris" on her body. She was commissioned by that luxury toy store to represent a bride of the Charente region, and is in excellent perfectly preserved condition. Jumeau, circa 1875.
