Description
14" x 9" (36 x 23 cm). An elegant glass vitrine box with gilded-metal filigree edging and trim has beveled glass on all sides and top, shield- shaped mirror at the front. At the back there is a beveled mirror surrounded by leaves and daisies, and matching epergnes of clear glass with ruffled collars. Inside the box which is lined in tufted red velvet are family mementoes including bride's wax orange blossom coronet and spray, and a little card with lock of baby hair. Globes de Mariee were presented not only at the beginning of the marriage, but also, in variant form on important wedding anniversaries. On each anniversary fresh flowers were placed in the vase to honor the marriage. French, circa 1890.
