Description
20" x 13" (51 x 33 cm). A rich red velvet tufted cushion is posed in the center of an elaborate arrangement, enclosed by a decorative gilt framework. At the back is an octagon-shaped mirror with hand-painted designs flanked by a pair of trapezoid mirror symbolizing perfect harmony. There are three additional mirrors. Other symbols include sheaths of wheat, roses and maple leaves, and there is a winged dove with wreath at the summit. A magnificent coronet of wax orange blossoms and buds is resting on the cushion along with a wax orange blossom necklace and many small wax clusters. A baby picture in silver frame is pinned to the cushion, too. The arrangement is resting upon an ebony-finished wooden base with glass dome. French, circa 1890.
