22" x 13" (56 x 33 cm). Encircling a red velvet tufted cushion is an elaborate arrangement of 22-karat gold-plated symbols surmounted by a winged dove with wreath of harmony. The symbols include 16 daisies alternated with 14 leaves, and various filigree borders. There is a central steeple- roofed beveled mirror, an elliptical mirror at the base, and seven rectangular mirrors symbolizing the number of years of the engagement. Personal mementoes placed on the cushion include the bride's wax orange blossom coronet, matching bouquet and a small coin purse with an image of a steamship on the exterior, and a small key inside. The rich presentation is on an ebony-finished wooden base under a glass dome. French, circa 1900.
