Description

18" (46 cm). An oval maroon velvet covered plate is encircled with silver and gold-plated metal decorations including acanthus leaves, flowers, two winged cupids, and crossed sheaths of wheat. There is a wax orange blossom coronet mounted on the velvet with a lock of the bride's hair, and in the two small oval frames there are delicate tendrils of children's hair. Arranged around the base is a photograph of three children, and an early book. There is an original musical box hidden below that plays one of two tunes when string is pulled. The arrangement rests upon an ebony-finished wooden base and originally had a blown glass dome. French, circa 1890.
