Description

15" x 11" (38 x 28 cm). A richly gilded frame of swag and tassel design encloses a rose silk tufted cushion upon which is resting a bridal bouquet of wax orange blossoms still enclosed in a fine Alencon lace framework. Symbols abound on the elaborate frame including 8 oak leaves symbolizing longevity of the couple, and three generous grape clusters symbolizing prosperity. Crossed sheaths of wheat form a design below an elliptical mirror and there are two oval mirrors offered by bridesmaids as tokens of good luck. The arrangement rests upon an ebony-finished wooden base and is preserved by a four-sided glass dome. There is a music box hidden under the base that plays from the pull-string at the side. French, circa 1890.
