18" x 12" (46 x 31 cm). A rich presentation of richly gilded symbolic objects surround a maroon velvet covered tufted cushion and its shield-shaped beveled-edge mirror with fern engravings. The gilded symbols include winged dove with wreath of harmony,12 fleur-de-lis flowers, four elaborate designed leaf clusters, and two strawberries with leaves. There are four elliptical-shaped mirrors. Resting upon the velvet cushion is the bride's tiara-like coronet of tiny wax orange blossoms, and a superb silk woven aumoniere with elaborate gilded tassels at the ends. The aumoniere was a traditional small purse for the bride used to hold coins given as gifts. The elaborate details of the unusual symbols of this globe de mariee indicate its original provenance from the daughter of a privileged and aristocratic family. One mirror is missing, its significance is unknown. The presentation rests upon an ebony-finished wooden base with glass dome. French, circa 1885.
