German Bisque Bride with Provenance

Description

21" (53 cm). Bisque socket head, brown glass sleep eyes, mohair and painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, original brunette mohair wig in upswept fashion, composition and wooden ball- jointed lady body. The doll is marked "1129 Germany Simon & Halbig 8" on the head, and "Heinrich Handwerck" on the body. The doll is wearing an ivory silk satin wedding gown with rich decorations of tulle, beading, pearls and silk embroidery, undergarments, ivory silk shoes. Also included are additional trousseau items comprising wedding parasol and wedding gloves, and going-away parasol and leather gloves. The costume was restored by noted costume and textile expert Helene Von Rosenstial according to an attached letter. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910.
