Description
20" x 14" (51 x 36 cm). A basket-shaped form with rich maroon velvet cover, scalloped rim, curvy handle, has matching tufted velvet cushion. Its handle is covered with hand-pressed white bisque flowers, comprising roses and bellflowers. A cascade of gilded leaves and buds decorates the scalloped edge of the velvet. A bouquet of wax orange blossoms and several clusters are arranged on the cushion; interspersed among the blossoms are glass pearls. Standing at the back of the cushion are a figural bride and groom of flour or sugar paste, with painted detail of costumes and coiffure. French, circa 1910.
